Applying for Registration in Ireland - Information for Nurses and Midwives Qualified Overseas
Nurses and midwives who have completed their training and gained registration in countries outside the Republic of Ireland must apply for admission to the Register maintained by An Bord Altranais (The Nursing Board) prior to practising in Ireland. The charge for this service is €175.
Applicants should note the following:
- Each application is considered on an individual basis.
- Normally, it is not possible for An Bord Altranais to state in advance if any application will be accepted.
- Delays occur if: The application form is not properly completed.All relevant documentation is not enclosed. The correct fee is omitted.
If you decide to apply for registration, return the completed application forms and requirements for Section 1 to An Bord Altranais with a fee of €175 and ensure that all requirements in Section 2 are met.
Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. Information regarding the rules, syllabi and criteria under which Irish nurses are trained can be accessed at www.nursingboard.ie.
